LONDON EVENING STANDARD: COMMENT - Tuesday, 6 May 2014, page 15

"All this may cause Boko Haram to raise its game but it can only be an improvement on the record to date of the Nigerian government, whose useful actions to recover the girls since their kidnap three weeks ago amounts to precisely zero".

"The Nigerian president, the unhappily named Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday said he had no idea where the girls were but that everything possible was being done. Meanwhile, the Nigerian police briefly detained not someone connected with Boko Haram, oh no, but Naomi Mutah Nyadar, a woman involved with mass demonstrations calling on the Government to get a grip and do something"

"The BBC recently reported that when the army ventures into those inaccessible areas where Boko Haram hangs out, the group is often absent, almost as if it had been tipped off. Frontline soldiers are under-equipped — yet Nigeria’s annual defence budget is £3.5 billion".
