I am not aware of an "Ebola scandal" in Nigeria. Nigeria, again has been made a scapegoat (and perhaps rightly so, because of our reputation or notoriety and our corrupt leaders).
The name Nigeria; the people, Nigerians have become a dumping ground, with a battered image and reputation, or is it notoriety? So all kinds of ignominy is due to Nigeria. If the sands of the Sahara Desert or the Atlantic Ocean suddenly disappear today, the world will blame Nigeria. And Nigerians will gladly and humbly and meekly accept the blame. And our leaders will quietly acquiesce, seeking ways to make money from the calamity.
The Ebola virus has killed and has been killing hundreds, if not thousands in the Congo, CAR,and other Central African countries, over the decades, and recently a big outbreak of the virus was reported in nearby Liberia and Sierra Leone. But do you hear the Western Press (and even our own irresponsible media) talk about these other countries? No.
The ONLY reported case of Ebola infection in NIGERIA was as a result of a Liberian man passing through Nigeria; was detected at a Nigerian hospital and the relevant authorities notified; the victim was immediately isolated and later died.
BUT what do we have being spread all over the world? It is as if the Ebola virus originated from Nigeria. It is as if we have an Ebola disease outbreak in Nigeria, whereas NOT a single Nigerian has been recorded or reported diagnosed or dead from it.
And you know what? Our government and even the ordinary people are not helping matters by spreading all kinds of rumours, lies, ignorance and misinformation.
This is what I call SELF-FLAGELLATION and an unfortunate LACK OF SELF-ESTEEM! This is what we are reduced to as a people - blaming ourselves for the problems of the world or other people's problems.
