I have never been a fan of Asiwaju Tinubu, despite supporting the Presidential candidate of his party, APC.
I have written several articles about his alleged corruption, and I am one who would be glad to to see him in the dock of a Nigerian (or even foreign) courtroom charged with corruption.
Then he has to prove that he made his massive wealth through sheer dint of hard work and entrepreneurship (impossible in Nigeria) or that he was just a money-making governor and politician, and the Federal Government of Nigeria to prove that Tinubu is corrupt; but like his ardent supporters always tell me: the man is innocent until proven guilty, so I have had to abide by that.
Now the NTA or whatever television, obviously doing a hatchet job for either the ruling PDP, or for the Presidential campaign team or for the Presidency have suddenly come up with a documentary, detailing the alleged corruption of Tinubu.
Then supporters and oppositions of both parties alike are at each others' throats with words like hypocrisy flying all over the place.
What we should be asking are:
Isn't the government and its various agencies (EFCC, ICPC, Code of Conduct Bureau, Nigerian Police, DSS, SSS, etc) supposed to be responsible for tackling corruption in Nigeria by investigating, arresting, charging, prosecuting and then jailing the guilty?
Why is the Federal Government (and its hatchet-men) leaving it in the hands of the Nigerian public to pass Guilty or Not Guilty on Tinubu, by showing or encouraging the showing of this documentary?
And if so, is that the responsibility of the Nigerian public or that of the Federal Government? Tinubu ruled Lagos State for 8 years, and I don't believe the Federal authorities do not have any file with evidence of corruption on him with them which can be used to get a conviction in court. If they don't, then let the federal government use the documentary tape to investigate the allegations afresh, not leave Tinubu's guilt or innocence in the court of public opinion near elections.
This is the real Hypocrisy in this issue. We can shout ourselves hoarse here, but the responsibility of dealing with Tinubu's alleged corruption rests firmly, legally and constitutionally in the hands of constituted agencies and authorities, not in my hands.
If the man is thought to be corrupt, the Federal Government should investigate him, arrest him, charge him, prosecute him and if found guilty, jail him.
